National School Counseling Week
School Counselor Appreciation

National School Counseling week is February 5 - 9. Jones County Career Technical Center faculty and staff want to thank CTE Counselor, Mrs. Debra Bush, for her dedication in assisting CTE students with their career goals.

CTE Month

Every February the CTE community celebrates National Career Technical Education Month, and all CTE programs at Jones County Career and Technical Center are involved in the celebration. On February 1, 2024, CTE students wore CTE Month stickers to promote awareness of career and technical education and to show support for the career and technical program in which they are currently enrolled. On February 1, 2024, Jones College CTE Instructors visited Jones County Career Technical Center to provide information about the CTE programs offered at Jones College.

First Nine Weeks Perfect Attendance Celebration

Fifty-one students had perfect attendance at the Career Tech Center for the first nine weeks.  On December 4, 2023, students received a certificate and a treat to celebrate their accomplishment.

On December 21, 2023, Jones County Career Technical Center faculty and staff held a retirement reception for Mrs. Ellene Hosey.  Mrs. Hosey is retiring after 27.5 years of teaching.  She will be greatly missed, but we wish her the best in this new chapter of her life.

Twenty-seven students at Jones County Career Technical Center had perfect attendance for the second nine weeks.  On January 30, 2024, students received a certificate and a treat to celebrate their accomplishment. 

WyoTech Guest Speaker
WyoTech

Jaime Ross, WyoTech Field Admissions Representative, visited Jones County Career Technical center on Thursday, January 25, 2024.  Ms. Ross spoke to students in the Automotive Service, Collision Repair and Welding programs. She presented students with information for the Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, and Collision and Refinishing Technology programs at WyoTech. Students also learned of the many industry certifications which can be earned by completing one of the WyoTech programs.  

JC CTC Student Organizations Provide Cookies and Activities to Residents of Care Center of Laurel
Care Center of Laurel Visit

Jones County Career Tech student organizations joined together on December 14, 2023 to deliver Snickerdoodle cookies and fun activities including corn hole, balloon baseball, Bingo, and puzzles to residents of Care Center of Laurel.  Culinary Arts students may participate in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) led by Mrs. Sheila Benson.  Health Science students may participate in Future Health Professionals (HOSA) led by Mrs. Dawn Smith and Mrs. Angie Bynum.  Through these student organization activities, students gain extra opportunities to develop leadership skills and career skills in their chosen field. 

Culinary Arts Students Assist Child Nutrition Staff at Elementary Schools for Thanksgiving Meals

On November 14, 2023, Jones County Career Technical Center Culinary Arts students assisted the Jones County Child Nutrition staff while serving the Thanksgiving Meal to thousands of students, families and teachers at the Jones County Elementary schools. The Culinary Arts students assisted Child Nutrition staff by transporting food, serving food and cleaning the cafeterias and gyms.

Health Science II Students Visit Moselle Elementary

On Dec. 1,2023 the Health Science II students visited Moselle Elementary to teach the Science Club students hands-on CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, and proper handwashing technique.

MS Army National Guard Representatives Speak to Career Technical Students
MS Army National Guard

On December 7, 2023, representatives from the Mississippi Army National Guard visited Jones County Career Technical Center to speak to students about the benefits of serving in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Education assistance and career training were two of the benefits explained to students.  The representatives also informed students of the eligibility requirements for the Guard and gave students an overview of the responsibilities of being in the Guard.

The Jones County Career and Technical Center National Technical Honor Society toured Camp Shelby on December 8, 2023. Students were presented with information on various careers associated with several different departments at Camp Shelby.

National Technical Honor Society members collect supplies for Animal Rescue League

The National Technical Honor Society held their first meeting of the school year on September 19, 2023.  In conjunction with the meeting, the students brought donations for the Animal Rescue League.  A wheel barrel full of supplies totaling over $300 was collected.  Great Job NTHS!!  Advisors are Debra Bush and Teri Tanner.

The Architectural Drafting and Design, Automotive Services, Collision Repair, Culinary Arts, Health Science, Information Technology,  Welding, and Work-Based Learning programs created a fair booth display to aid in recruiting new students and promoting awareness to the parents and community of the programs available for students at the career technical center. The South MS Fair was held during the week of October 20-28, 2023.

Laurel firefighters visited the Jones County Career Tech Center

Laurel firefighters visited the Jones County Career Tech Center.  The firefighters presented fire safety guidelines and shared work-related experiences with the students.  After the presentation, students went outside to practice using fire extinguishers. (September 13 and 14, 2023)

Universal Technical Institute Visits JCCTC

Larry Plutchak, Universal Technical Institute Admissions Representative, visited the Jones County Career Tech Center on Thursday, August 24, 2023. He spoke to our second year Auto Services, Welding, Collision Repair, Drafting, Information Technology students and our third year Work-Based Learning students (program completers) about career choices, financial planning, UTI and SkillsUSA scholarships.

Reality Fair
Reality Fair

Jones County Career and Technical students from the Architectural Drafting and Design, Automotive Services, Collision Repair, Culinary Arts, Health Science, Information Technology,  Welding, and Work-Based Learning programs participated in a Reality Fair on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. The Reality Fair helped students understand the importance of budgeting and financial planning.

JCCTC's Instructors Participate in Dyslexia Training Professional Development

On Thursday, August 3, 2023, Donna Powell presented "Schools Through the Minds of Dyslexia" Professional Development training to the instructors at the Jones County Career Tech Center. Donna is one of the Jones County School District's Dyslexia Therapist.
